about

Here is the second segment in the South. Wav ‘Lavender Laboratories’ capsule; the Lavender Laboratories - EP. This EP delves deeper into our understandings of comfortability, juxtapositions, and rejecting polarised normativity. The artists involved set out in order to draw attention towards these understandings of form through focusing on the spaces between things, between transients in sounds, the spaces in builds, time, expectations, and the subversion of traditional binaries of canonical genre classification.

The A1, 'Lavender Levitation develops with textured & crunchy granular sections of calming ambience, contrasting with deconstructed and hard-hitting over-driven percussive outbursts.
Focusing on the ethereal intersection between hardcore and ambient soundscapes.'

The A2, ‘3001 Bass Odyssey’ by Fidel and Skenghis Kahn focuses on a journey of textures and builds, working with juxtaposed clean bass rises and warm pads posited against scratchy uncomfortable percussion and soundscapes and uncomfortable false horizon drops. This track focuses on a subversion of popular culture, recontextualisation of quotes providing a deceptive tone offering reintroduction towards the regurgitation of art, popular culture, and through this dichotomy understand a new dynamic towards the interconnectedness of vulgarity and beauty throughout the media industry and its confusing conflicts.

B1 A really very static dirty ball of slime

The B2 ‘Corduroy Crusades’, by Pistachio Mishap utilises formative layering and unconventional building style in order to cohabit gritty UK grime style and hard hitting club sounds, with an exploration into the intersection of multi-genred music production principles, and its aura’s find a vertical space between both energies.

With our concepts of comfortability shaken in the wake of Corona Virus and the struggle of BIPOC people throughout the largest civil rights movement in history, we believe it is right for all of the proceeds to be split between charities delegating the profits to those made most uncomfortable in our society;
This capsule began before these instances, but has proven to increase the relevance of our focus to comfort, and expanded the need for our gaze to be focused on our positions of power and comfortability, our requirement towards helping those less comfortable and introspection on ourselves and our need to be comfortable within ourselves.

We have chosen to donate the proceeds from our Lavender Laboratories EP to Refugee Community Kitchen. A charity committed to providing nourishing meals and access to fresh, healthy meals to displaced refugees and homeless on a daily basis.

Amidst the pandemic, the harsh treatment towards refugees from French Government authorities and Police hasn’t stopped. People in Calais are still reeling from the brutal evictions on the 10th of July, which continue to cause huge distress to the communities here. Water points were destroyed, government funded meals ceased, and refugees, who already had so little were left with no food or shelter, being forced to carry what they can with them.

Please donate what you can to support our sturdy release but more importantly to support our chosen Humanitarian Charity Organisation who’s vital voluntary work needs our backing to make life brighter for displaced refugees and homeless, who are all valuable members of our society.
